Restoring National Unity Under The Rule Of Law

by Oletta Branstiter

How do we restore National Unity?

We the People must agree on is honoring the Rule of Law above the Rule of Man.

Contrary to popular misconceptions, the United States is not a Democracy. Democracy is a system of government ruled by the majority. As we know from history (and our most recent primary Presidential election) the opinions of the general populace can often be wrong. Slavery was once accepted by the majority. That didn’t make it right.

The advent and popularity of instant polls are disturbing. Citizens are being conditioned to accept and participate in pure Democracy. Media pundits and politicians consistently cite the latest polls as if they carry any weight in governance. This promotes the instant gratification of the rule of man over the rule of law.

The United States is a Constitutional Republic. It is founded on the Rule of Law.

According to

A constitutional republic is a form of government in which the head of the state, as well as other officials, are elected by the country’s citizens to represent them. Those representatives must then follow the rules of that country’s constitution in governing their people.

Article IV, Section 4 of our Constitution specifically guarantees a Republican form of government for every state. In fact, the word “democracy” is not found in the U.S. Constitution.

It is found in the following statements:

“Democracy was the right of the people to choose their own tyrant.” – James Madison

“Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.” – John Marshall (4th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court)

“A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where 51% of the people may take away the rights of the other 49%.” – Thomas Jefferson

“The experience of all former ages had shown that of all human governments, democracy was the most unstable, fluctuating and short-lived.”  – John Quincy Adams

So, why do so many of our politicians and media pundits refer to our nation as a Democracy? Are they willfully ignorant, or purposely deceptive?

After decades of Progressive professors indoctrinating college students in the false promises of Utopian Socialism, we’re reaping what has been sown.

“Democracy is the road to Socialism.” – Karl Marx (father of Communism)

The Democratic agenda of Socialized health care was a successful political push by proponents of a Democracy designed to enrich and empower the elite rulers.

We’re well on our way down that dead-end road. It is paved with “good intentions” that manipulate the ignoble nature of fallen man to empower the ambitions of tyrants. What appears to be the easy, attractive road actually leads to hell on earth.

Our nation is founded on the Rule of Law, not the devious whims of man. It derives its just powers from the consent of the governed, as stated in our Declaration of Independence.

Artistic rendering of Lady Justice holding scales of justice

The key word in the above paragraph is “just“. Lady Justice, as the statue portrays, is blind – unbiased by prejudice and established solely on the Rule of Law.

In order to restore national unity, We the People must reinstate the shared values that include fidelity to the Rule of Law in a Constitutional Republic.
