POTUS Trump Continues Conduct Unbecoming – Latest Targets “Morning Joe” And Mika
Adding to the near daily and growing body of evidence that Donald Trump’s behavior as President is both an international embarrassment as well as confirmation that he is temperamentally unfit to occupy the Oval Office, is his tweet barrage against Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program.
About the program and its hosts, Trump tweeted early this morning that:
I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came..

Trump followed this by specifically assailing Mika Brzezinski by mocking her about what he alleged were complications from a cosmetic surgical operation:
…to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!

MSNBC responded saying: “It’s a sad day for America when the president spends his time bullying, lying and spewing petty personal attacks instead of doing his job.”
On the other hand, White House Deputy press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, attempted to defend the president’s tweets by saying that Trump was responding to the “outrageous attacks that take place” on “Morning Joe” and other shows. Trump refuses to be “bullied,” Sanders told Fox News. “This is a president who fights fire with fire.”
A variety of Republicans are not buying Sanders justification of Trump’s behavior.
Senator Susan Collins of Maine, responded via Twitter, “This has to stop. We don’t have to get along, but we must show respect and civility.” Fellow GOP Senator, Lindsey Graham (SC) also commented, “Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America.”
Pro-forma rejections of Trump’s tweeting came from Congressional leaders, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI). Some reports have surfaced, indicating that McConnell actually has privately expressed deep anger at Trump’s incessant and incendiary tweets calling them “beyond stupid”. The New York Times reported a few days ago regarding Trump’s attacks on Senate Republicans who have lingering objections to the Obamacare replacement bill, that:
The majority leader — already rankled by Mr. Trump’s tweets goading him to change Senate rules to scuttle Democratic filibusters — called the White House chief of staff, Reince Priebus, to complain that the attacks were “beyond stupid,”according to two Republicans with knowledge of the tense exchange.
Trump’s comments about women bleeding, seems to be a preoccupation with him, when viewed against the background of Trump’s attack on former Fox News host Megyn Kelly last year, denigrating her menstrual cycle with the slur, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”
At one time, during the GOP Presidential primary campaign, Trump attempted to secure the allegiance of the “Morning Joe” hosts by wining and dining them at his resort in Jupiter, Florida – Mar-al-Lago. Unlike the results Trump obtained from the likes of Sean Hannity (who, today defended Trump) and Newt Gingrich, the overture had no lasting benefit for Trump.
The New York Times spoke with GOP pollster Christine Matthews, who observed that the president’s use of Twitter to target a prominent woman was particularly striking, noting that he used only one derogatory word — “psycho” — to describe the show’s co-host, Joe Scarborough, and the remainder of his limited characters to hit upon damaging stereotypes of women. “He included dumb, crazy, old, unattractive and desperate,” Ms. Matthews said.
“Please just stop,” said Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE), adding on Twitter. “This isn’t normal and it’s beneath the dignity of your office.”
Still, there are those who do not believe that the dignity of the office requires any more from Trump than the immature ‘Even Steven’ behavior of a child engaged in a playground insult match. Among them is his wife, Melania.
“As the First Lady has stated publicly in the past, when her husband gets attacked, he will punch back 10 times harder,” her communications director Stephanie Grisham said in response to reporters’ questions. Melania Trump has previously said that as First Lady she wants to focus on the problem of cyberbullying.
Perhaps public service begins at home.
