No More “Happy Days” For Erin Moran
by Dena Leichnitz
The beautiful little girl we all knew as Joanie Cunningham on the 70’s television show “Happy Days” has succumbed to Stage Four cancer. Erin Moran played Joanie during the 1974-1984 run. She would also appeared in the spin off “Joanie Loves Chachi”. And as any yong girl at the time would have told you Joanie was not the only one who loved Chachi.
According to People Magazine who spoke to Anson Williams (Potsie Weber) following her death she was struggling with throat cancer and was unable to speak. “She kept very quiet. We kept quiet too, out of respect for Erin. She couldn’t talk but her text were very [positive]. (Original brackets). Erin didn’t have an easy life following Happy Days. While Ron Howard became a famous director and Henry Winkler had guest spots over the years on shows like “Crossing Jordan,” Erin didn’t fare nearly as well.
While she won a settlement concerning the Happy Days merchandizing, it still wasn’t enough to get her back on her feet totally since there was rumors she was living in a trailer following losing her home to foreclosure in California.
Erin was 56 years old. Erin’s smile and light will be sorely missed especially by all who grew up with her. She truly made the time we spent watching her “Happy Days.”
