America’s Betrayal Of The Kurds Will Cost Trump The White House

by Tony Wyman On Saturday, south of the town of Tel Abyad, a city once held by ISIS terrorists until Kurd fighters of the YPG and Free Syrian Army liberated it in June 2015, militiamen loyal to Turkey’s strongman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, dragged Hevrin Kalaf, the Secretary-General of the Future Syria Party, a pro-Kurdish political force founded in 2018 with American support, from her car and executed her, along with her driver, leaving her body to rot on the side of the road. “Here lies the body of pigs,” said…

The Kurds – A Force For Moderation And Stability In Syria And Iraq

photo of a Kurdish political rally of thousands waving the flag of Kurdistan.

by Richard Cameron   Editor’s Note: This is an article I wrote in 2014, on a different outlet, as a brief outline of the role Kurdish fighters were playing in the U.S. led coalition’s war against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq and their development of a firewall against the further spread of Salafist militants. With Donald Trump’s decision to green light Turkey to commence a military campaign against the Kurds in Northern Syria, it seemed like it might be of value at this point, to repost it…

Blowback: Trump’s Precipitous (And Traitorous) Immature And Premature Syrian Withdrawal

by Richard Cameron   Hard to say if Donald Trump had any inkling of the reaction he was going to get from his announcement that he intends to leave the Kurds in Northern Syria twisting in the wind, exposed to a vindictive onslaught from Turkey’s military. Whether he did or not, casting caution and common sense and decency to the wind, he’s getting a reaction and most of it is ferocious, especially of note, by customary milquetoast GOP standards. Before we look at that, we should hear from the…

Trump Cabinet Clown Show Demonstrates Accelerating Mental Disintegration

An image with a word pastiche and caricature of Trump with a word pastiche of terms and synonyms representing mental illness.

by Richard Cameron   Periodically, we at National Compass, take an inventory of the random, nonsensical, juvenile, puerile ramblings of Donald Trump. We do it periodically, because even though Trump spouts off daily and sometimes hourly – it is not possible to publish updates that frequently with all of the other issues to deal with that arise from Trump’s radioactive presidency. Beyond that, the intervals between these examinations makes them somewhat a barometer of Trump’s mental health state. Given the fact, however, that Trump’s mental state was acutely troubled before…

It is Time We Face the Fact the War in Afghanistan is Over

by Tony Wyman A United States airstrike killed a major Taliban military figure on Saturday, dealing the insurgency that has been fighting a war against the Afghan government and its American backers for 17 years, 1 month, 3 weeks and 4 days as of this writing a “big loss,” in their words. But that loss doesn’t change the fact that the war in Afghanistan, a war that has so far cost the United States more than $1 trillion, 2412 killed and 19,950 wounded, is, effectively over. “It is time for…

As Long As Assad Remains In Power, The West Is Losing In Syria

photo image of bombed out apartments and buildings in the suburbs of Damascus.

by Tony Wyman Assad will remain in control of Syria – Missile strikes or not   President Trump rightly called Syrian dictator Bashar Al-Assad a monster. That is precisely what the tyrant is, an evil man with no conscience who deserves to meet a bloody end at the hands of his own people. While last night’s strikes degraded his ability, we’ve been told, to use chemical weapons such as Chlorine gas, to murder more helpless children in his country, it did nothing at all to remove Mr. Assad from power. What…

Suspected Suicide Bomber Shot At Brussels Central Station In Belgium

by Tyla MacAllister DeFreese Belgian officials say soldiers have “neutralized” a man wearing an explosives vest at Brussels Central Station. It has not been confirmed whether the suspect is dead or alive. No other casualties have been reported.
