While riding on the back of Infowars, The Gateway Pundit, The National Examiner, and a plethora of conspiracy theory and Russian bot bloggers all the way to the White House, “FAKE NEWS” is a common attack Donald Trump shamelessly implements against every negative news story about him.
“The media is really, the word, one of the greatest of all terms I’ve come up with, is ‘fake,'” Trump told Mike Huckabee in an interview on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. “I guess other people have used it perhaps over the years but I’ve never noticed it. And it’s a shame. And they really hurt the country. Because they take away the spirit of the country.”
His admirers follow suit, as they scream”FAKE NEWS!” at any and all credible criticism of Trump, while they are the numbero uno connoisseurs and distributors of actual FAKE NEWS (especially when they get their “fact-based” news from the Liar and Chief himself).
On the topic of “FAKE NEWS”, Trump blogger Donna Garner from “Education Views” says, “We can get our fact-based news directly from the President of the United States himself… It is such a joy each morning to go to Pres. Trump’s Twitter page and have him talk directly to me, a common, everyday American who wants to know what is really happening in our world in real time.”
For true Conservatives, who have been dealing with these mindless sycophants for the last 2 1/2 years, this is no revelation. However, for posterity, I wish to share a small example of what they are prone to unequivocally believe.
I found this clickbait gem that a Trumper was circulating in a Facebook group called Facebook Conservatives….
The story’s grammar-challenged title, “AMERICAN TEENAGE WHOM KILLED MUSLIM REFUGEE FOR RAPING HIS 7 YEARS OLD SISTER SENTENCED 30 YEARS TO LIFE IN A FEDERAL PRISON” comes from a FAKE NEWS site (probably Russian or Macedonian) fallaciously called “Conservative ONES dot com.”
If you actually go to the website, there are no details that the headline insinuates… but rather details about another FAKE story (discredited by Snopes) from 2014 about a teenager who was sentenced to 25 years for “swatting” (the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address). Btw…the exact misleading headline and lack of information can also be ironically found at the spyware-plagued website called American President Donald J. Trump (usdeplorableslovestrump dot com if you want to chance it), in which they ridiculously dub themselves “A Tested and Trustworthy Team.”
So… even though this was FAKE NEWS on top of FAKE NEWS, many ignorant Trumper members reacted solely to the title, did no research of their own, and even shared the FAKE NEWS to their Trumper friends. This sort of reaction is prevalent in Trump groups and groups with the misnomer, “Conservative” in their titles all over Facebook.
While reacting solely to an article’s title is a laziness and gullibility not isolated to Trumpists, their relentless “FAKE NEWS” Trump-mimicry exposes their blatantly shameless hypocrisy. Even while perusing most of these faux “conservative” Facebook groups on November the 5th, if the top story wasn’t about the “evil corrupt Mueller,” it was about the Antifa “civil war” that was supposed to happen, but NEVER happened, on November the 4th.
How can a nation survive when many within our electorate abandon reason for madness?
Finally, the implication that Russia contributed greatly to Trump’s campaign and continues to feed misinformation throughout social media should not be ignored. As mass distributors of FAKE NEWS, the Russian/Macedonian news sites are permeating both Twitter and Facebook every day, and the Trump cult takes it all in, hook, line and sinker. All we can do is keep showing them how FAKE their sources really are and hope we someday can crack the orange plastic.
